Alfred "Fred" Gebhardt (born February 27, 1928 in Bayreuth ; † August 15, 2000 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German politician and member of the Bundestag .

Life

Fred Gebhardt attended elementary and advanced school in upper school from 1934 and graduated in 1945 with the secondary school diploma . From 1947 to 1959 he completed a degree in political science and sociology and had study visits to the USA , Israel , Yugoslavia and the Soviet Union .

After the Second World War he worked from 1945 to 1947 in the city ​​administration in Berlin and in the labor and social administration in Stuttgart . He was a member of the German Trade Union Federation (DGB) , the Arbeiterwohlfahrt (AWO) , Amnesty international , medico international and UNICEF and chairman of the German Society for the Promotion of Peace in the Middle East and the International Center for Peace in the Middle East in Tel Aviv .

Fred Gebhardt was a member of the SPD from 1945 to 1998 . He was also a member of the board of the SPD in Stuttgart and Frankfurt am Main as well as the district board of Baden-Württemberg and Hessen . For eight years he was a councilor in the magistrate of the city of Frankfurt and from 1974 to 1987 a member of the Hessian state parliament , to which he was elected in the constituency of Frankfurt am Main VI . For a time he was a member of the commission for international relations of the party council of the SPD in Bonn .

In the spring of 1998 he left the SPD and was elected to the German Bundestag as a non-party member via the PDS's open list . On October 26, 1998, he opened the constituent session of the 14th electoral term as age president . He died on August 15, 2000 at the age of 72. Fred Gebhardt was a Protestant , divorced and had two daughters.
