In 1724 he went to Wittenberg and Halle for three and a half years , where he attended lectures by Nikolaus Hieronymus Gundling and Justus Henning Böhmer . After this time he made several trips to Vienna , Hungary , the Netherlands and France .

On his return home he was by the Polish king August the Strong to lieutenant of the riding guard appointed. Further trips to Naples and a visit to Vesuvius followed . In 1733 he was promoted to Rittmeister and in 1734 to major. After several small acts of war, he was sent in 1737 with auxiliary troops from the Electorate of Saxony to the imperial army in Hungary against the Turks. There he was appointed commander of a cuirassier regiment and lieutenant colonel. After the Peace of Belgrade he returned home to Upper Lusatia in September 1739 .

After Frederick the Great took office , Kyaw moved to Prussian services. He was appointed Colonel and Commander of the Nassau Dragoon Regiment and acquired the order Pour le Mérite during the First Silesian War when he defended the pass at Nappa-Gödel in Moravia with 80 dragoons. In the peace that followed, he was appointed major general and commander of the Waldow cavalry regiment in 1743 .

In September 1744 he fought in the Second Silesian War off Prague , with two cuirassier regiments near Hohenfriedberg in June 1745, as commander of the cavalry near Soor in September 1745 and with four regiments near Kesselsdorf in December 1745. In the Seven Years' War he fought in the Battle of Lobositz in October 1756 and in May 1757 in the Battle of Prague . After a severe illness, he joined the Duke of Bevern and took over the leadership of the cavalry in the Battle of Breslau in November 1757. After the Duke's capture, he was the highest-ranking officer in command of the troops. Against the orders of King Frederick II, he and his troops left the threatened Breslau , which then capitulated and was taken by the Habsburgs .
