List of grape varieties |
Fumin is an autochthonous red grape variety from the alpine region of Aosta Valley in northern Italy. In the past it was often confused with the Freisa variety, according to Giovanni Dalmasso . In 1970 it was included in the Italian list of varieties Catalogo nazionale delle variatà di viti .
The late-ripening vigorous variety produces wines with a very high acid content and strong tannins . Therefore, the wines were mainly used as blends , the more the fumin can also be used as a dye grape due to its red pulp . Only in the last 10 years (as of 2005) has the variety been mastered in terms of viticulture and offered single-variety red wines . The results are first class and are now among the most typical and original products in the Aosta Valley.
