Gaewolf is a term for dog fur as a material for clothing - for example as a fur coat , collar trim or fur lining . Gae is the Korean name for dog.

In order to avoid the word dog , the skins , which mostly came from China , Mongolia or Korea, were also marketed under other names, e.g. B. Wolf of Asia , Asiatic raccoon (clearly wrongly labeled), Pomeranian wolf , Sobaki , Dogskin or Dogue de Chine .

Since December 31, 2008, dog fur and products containing such fur may not be placed on the European Union market or imported into or exported from the European Union ; Exceptions can be allowed in individual cases. The implementation in Germany is regulated by the Animal Products Trade Prohibition Act with powers of intervention for police authorities and threats of fines.
