geology

Geologically, the districts are in the south-east Thuringian slate mountains . Due to the high proportion of fine earth and humus content, these soils are particularly productive and safe under the climatic conditions of the area. Agriculture is favored on the plateau-like ridges, undulating plains and flat slopes. Spring troughs and narrow valleys of rivers and streams are typical grassland locations. They are hardly or not at all suitable for arable use. In other locations, forest use predominates.

history

Gebersreuth was first mentioned in a document on March 18, 1368. 14 families were resettled from these districts in 1952 and 1961 to safeguard the border measures. From 1908 to 1970 the children had school lessons in Gebersreuth, then in Gefell. After that, the kindergarten was located there. The school is now used as a community room, where village festivals take place and various associations meet.

On January 1, 1958 Mödlareuth was incorporated into Gebersreuth. As part of the Thuringian reorganization, the Gebersreuth community was dissolved with effect from January 1, 1997 and merged with the town of Gefell and the communities of Blintendorf, Dobareuth, Frössen, Göttengrün and Langgrün to form a town with the name Gefell.

economy

The districts were and are still characterized by agriculture. Around 1900 there was an iron mine with 50 workers. In the places there were the supply facilities necessary for the rural population such as sales outlets, millers, bakers, shoemakers, wheelwright and blacksmiths. Leash weavers, carpenters, forest workers and factory workers had work opportunities in the villages, Hirschberg and Gefell.
