Georg Dietrich von Sobbe

Georg Dietrich von Sobbe (born June 30, 1747 in Schildesche , † March 1, 1823 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was a member of a Westphalian noble family . His parents were the Prussian war councilor Karl von Sobbe (1687–1764) and Johanna Margarethe Charlotte Engelbrecht (1713–1764). The Prussian district president in Münster Wilhelm Ludwig von Sobbe (1750–1810) was his younger brother. His youngest brother Colonel August von Sobbe (1753-1821) was the last commander of the Fusilier Battalion. 18. Together with his older brother, the Prussian Major Clamor Moritz von Sobbe (1744-1799), he was in 1774 in Prussia the nobility recognized .

military service

Sobbe began his career in 1763 as a private corporal in Infantry Regiment No. 10 . He became the regiment still in 1763 to Ensign and 1769 Sekonde- and 1778 to first lieutenant . Sobbe took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession before he was promoted to staff captain in 1784 and captain and company commander in 1787 . He took part in the Holland campaign and was able to excel in the battle near Amstelveen . Still serving in the 10th Infantry Regiment, he advanced to major in 1792 and entered the First Coalition War the same year . He took part in the battle of Kaiserslautern , the siege of Mainz and the battles at La Lune, Ruppertsberg , Eschweiler, Edinghofen and the Schänzel. In 1794 he was awarded the Pour le Mérite order . In 1765 he became commander of the grenadier battalion in the regiment and in 1799 commander of a composite grenadier battalion made up of the grenadiers of regiments 10 and 41 . In 1800 Sobbe rose to lieutenant colonel , in 1802 to colonel and finally in 1803 was commander of the Old Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 48 . In 1804 the king gave him the administration of Draheim . Sobbe also took part in the Fourth Coalition War, became a member of the court martial commission in Berlin in 1808 and finally advanced to major general in 1811. In 1813 he was granted his departure with half his pay as a salary . In 1816 and 1818 he received 100 thalers from the King in recognition of previous services.

family

Sobbe married his niece Johanna Charlotte Ernestine von Sobbe (1775–1841), Lady of the Order of Louis in Schildesche in 1798 . The marriage resulted in a daughter Charlotte (1799–1800) and a son Ludwig (* 1802).
