George Purdy Bullard

George Purdy Bullard (born April 14, 1869 in Portland , Oregon , † July 25, 1924 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

George Purdy Bullard was born in Portland, Oregon in 1869. His family moved to San Francisco, California during his childhood . In the following years he attended the local schools. He studied law and was admitted to the California bar. He started practicing at the age of 21. In 1899 he moved to the Arizona Territory and settled there in Phoenix ( Maricopa County ). It would be his home for the next 25 years. Bullard served as the Maricopa County Attorney for five years. In 1911 he was elected Attorney General of Arizona . Bullard was the first person to hold the post after Arizona became a state . His tenure ended in 1915. He then practiced as a lawyer again. He was president of the first automobile club founded in Arizona. In the meantime, he also ran car racing, which made him known in Southern California. After the death of Eugene S. Ives (1859-1917) he was the new Chief Counsel in Arizona of the Southern Pacific Lines railroad company . He also practiced as a lawyer. As a result, he was traveling in different parts of the southwest. He also served as an attorney for the Arizona Power Company . Bullard stayed in Los Angeles in 1924 because of the proposed merger between Southern Pacific Lines and El Paso and Southwestern Lines . At the time of his death, however, he was on leave. Bullard was buried in the Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix, Arizona.

He was married to Pearl S. McHenry (1879-1943).
