Briggs Goodrich (* 1848 in Anderson , Texas , † June 1888 in the Arizona Territory ) was an American lawyer and politician .

Career

Briggs Goodrich, son of Serena Crothers (1807-1884) and Dr. Benjamin Briggs Goodrich was born and raised on a farm near Anderson, Grimes County in 1848 . His father was a signatory to the Texas Declaration of Independence and a Congressman for the Republic of Texas . His uncle, John C. Goodrich (1809–1836), died at the Battle of the Alamo . Briggs Goodrich studied law at Austin College in Huntsville ( Walker County ). After receiving his license to practice law, he began practicing in Grimes County. On April 24, 1869 he married Rosa Meador (1850-1871), daughter of Dora Meador. The couple had a daughter named Rosa (1870-1959). After the death of his first wife, he married a woman named Virginia "Jennie" Shackelford (1857-1919). The couple had a son named Benjamin Briggs Peter Fredic (1880-1924). Briggs moved to the Arizona Territory with his family in 1880. They settled there in Tombstone ( Cochise County down). Briggs founded a law practice with the lawyer Webster Street , which he operated until his death in June 1888. In 1887 he was appointed Attorney General of the Arizona Territory - a post he held until his death. The governor of Arizona Territory C. Meyer Zulick then appointed John A. Rush to the new Attorney General, the vacancy to fill.
