Trivia

Wiley E. Jones stayed at the Jones Hotel in Safford on Friday evening, May 21, 1921 . In the course of the evening he wanted to impress a few women there. To do this, he took a Gila lizard out of a box that he had with him. He held the reptile by the neck with his right hand and slapped the reptile's head with his left hand. Soon after, the gila crustacean had bitten the end of the middle finger of his left hand. It took him more than a minute to get rid of the reptile from his hand. As a result of the bite, Jones's hand and tongue became swollen. It took about five hours before his tongue was swollen enough and he could speak again.
