John A. Rush

John A. Rush (* 1819 in Missouri , † after 1889) was an American lawyer and politician .

Career

Not much is known about John A. Rush. His youth were overshadowed by the economic crisis of 1837 and the following years by the Mexican-American War . It is not known where and when he studied law . At some point he moved to the Arizona Territory and settled there first in the Salt River Valley . He then relocated to Prescott ( Yavapai County ). In the following years he practiced as a lawyer. Rush belonged to the Democratic Party . From late 1866 to July 8, 1867, he was Attorney General of the Arizona Territory. Rush then sat from September 4 to October 7, 1867 in the Arizona Territory House of Representatives. He ran in 1868 against Republican Governor Richard Cunningham McCormick for the seat of delegate in the United States Congress . In the following years he was a judge. After 1875 he ran a legal practice with Edmund W. Wells for 14 years . Arizona Territory Governor C. Meyer Zulick appointed Rush as the new Arizona Territory Attorney General in July 1888 to fill the vacancy left by Briggs Goodrich's death since June 1888. He held the post until 1889.
