Thomas D. Satterwhite

Thomas D. "Tom" Satterwhite (born September 19, 1851 in South Carolina , † June 13, 1905 in Tucson , Arizona Territory ) was an American lawyer and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Thomas D. Satterwhite, son of Alice and Thomas Satterwhite, was born in South Carolina in 1851. During his childhood he became an orphan. Further details about his youth are not known. He moved to California and settled there in Gilroy ( Santa Clara County ) down. In the following years he worked as a rancher and trader. At some point he studied law . In the early 1880s he was a clerk in the Department of Justice in Washington, DC . Satterwhite put 1883 in the Arizona Territory and settled there in Tucson ( Pima County ) down. In the following years he practiced as a lawyer. Satterwhite was appointed probate judge of Pima County in 1886 and United States Court Commissioner in 1893. In 1895 he was appointed Attorney General of the Arizona Territory - a post he held until 1896. Then he worked as a lawyer again. In the last three or four years of his life he did less and less practice as a lawyer. He was mainly involved in the mining business in Mexico . Despite this fact, he ran for the post of District Attorney in Pima County as a Democrat. His health was in poor health for the last year and a half of his life. Satterwhite recently suffered from insomnia, which was getting worse every day. As a result, on June 13, 1905, he began suicide in his Tucson law firm by shooting himself. His body was interred in Court Street Cemetery . He left behind his widow and three sons: Raymond, a resident of Tucson; Clinton, who lives in San Francisco , and Thomas D., Jr., six, in Tucson.
