Gerhard Balluch

Gerhard Balluch (born January 28, 1942 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actor , theater director and radio play speaker .

Life

After attending grammar school, Gerhard Balluch initially began studying theater studies and German studies , but then received artistic training at the Krauss drama school in his hometown. In addition to numerous piece contracts at Austrian and German theaters such as the Graz Opera House , the Innsbruck State Theater , the Vienna Volkstheater , the Ingolstadt City Theater , the Bremen City Theaters and the Old Theater in Stuttgart , he had long engagements at the Burgtheater , the Klagenfurt City Theater and the Salzburg State Theater . In 1972 Balluch took on an engagement at the Schauspielhaus Graz , whose ensemble he still belongs to today and with which he in turn was a guest at many European theaters, including the National Theater in Belgrade , the City Theater Bern , the Hamburg Thalia Theater and the German Theater Meeting in Prague. Balluch also worked at numerous festivals and summer theaters, such as the Salzburg Festival , the Vienna Festival , the Bregenz Festival and the Lehár Festival Bad Ischl .

Professionally significant roles include the title roles in Jedermann by Hugo von Hofmannsthal , in Cyrano by Bergerac by Edmond Rostand and in Richard II by William Shakespeare , the Astrow in Uncle Vanja by Anton Chekhov , the Knieriem from Johann Nestroy's Der böse Geist Lumpazivagabundus or Professor Higgins in the musical My Fair Lady by Frederick Loewe and Alan J. Lerner .

As a director, Gerhard Balluch was responsible for productions such as The Man Who Doesn't Dare by Curth Flatow , The Bald Singer by Eugène Ionesco , Ferdinand Raimunds Verschwender or the operetta Der Graf von Luxemburg by Franz Lehár . He also runs the Arcadia production company with his wife .

Balluch has seldom worked in front of the camera. In 1970 he had a guest appearance in an episode of the series Der Kurier der Kaiserin , in the 1980s and 1990s he played in two Tatort episodes. Balluch's work as a radio play speaker in productions of Austrian radio since the mid-1960s is much more extensive .

In addition to his work as an actor and speaker, Balluch teaches at the University of Graz in the subject "Speech and Voice Training", and he also held teaching positions at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz in the field of "Dramatic Design". Occasionally Balluch also gives private acting and speaking lessons.
