Gerrit Confurius (born February 12, 1946 in Lübeck ) is a German - Dutch writer . He studied German in Hamburg , Vienna and Munich . After working as a lecturer at Greno , he was editor of the Bauwelt ; then editor-in-chief of Daidalos magazine .

Life

Gerrit Confurius grew up in Lübeck, where he lived until he began studying German and sociology in combination with theater history , philosophy and art history in Hamburg , Vienna and Munich , which he graduated from the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich in 1980 . He received his doctorate with a thesis on the intellectual history of architecture. For his publication Sabbioneta or the Fine Art of Founding a City , he received the City of Munich's Literature Prize in 1982. After a period of freelance work with numerous trips all over Europe and a few publications, he joined Greno-Verlag in Nördlingen as an editor in 1986, for which he was primarily responsible for photo books until its dissolution in 1989. Then he was editor of the weekly Bauwelt in Berlin. In 1994 he took over the management of the Daidalos - Berlin Architectural Journal from Ulrich Conrads , with Werner Oechslin , Gerhard Auer , Jan Piper, Gert Mattenklott , Ulrich Conrads, initially also Wolfgang Meisenheimer and Günther Feuerstein , later with Bart Lootsma . In 1998 the Bertelsmann company considered discontinuing the job because of the drastic decline in advertising volume. The magazine then went to the publisher Gordon & Breach until it was discontinued in 2000 when the publisher was downsized. This was followed by freelance activities - various lectures in Frankfurt am Main , Graz , Vienna, Lisbon , Hamburg and Lübeck - and magazine articles, primarily on architectural and urban planning topics in magazines ( Wespennest , Am Erker , Werk und Zeit , Architecture d'Aujourd ' hui , Archithese , Werk Bauen und Wohnen ), and daily newspapers ( FAZ , Der Standard ). A teaching position for social science at the University of Applied Sciences Görlitz lasted 3 semesters. In 2001 he was - in cooperation with Paula Martins Barata (Promontorio), Luis Tavarez Pereira (Aindaarquitetura) and Nuno Grande (University of Coimbra) - significantly involved in the organization of a three-day symposium on architecture and urban development in Porto on the occasion of the appointment as European Capital of Culture . In the essay on the photo book by Isolde Ohlbaum Because all lust wants eternity , he deals with the history of the cemeteries and the grave sculptures and in particular the temporally and spatially limited phenomenon of erotic grave sculptures. A second focus is on theoretical concepts of personal crisis and the range of meaningful narratives. This topic is discussed in the “Pinocchio Effect” and “Ichzwang”.

Gerrit Confurius lives as a freelance author in Berlin. He is divorced and the father of Lucas Confurius , Henriette Confurius and Carl Confurius.
