The Gmina Prostki is a rural community Prostki in the powiat Ełcki of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in Poland . Their seat is the village of the same name ( German Prostken ) with about 3000 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located in the southeast of the voivodeship and borders on the Podlaskie Voivodeship . Neighboring municipalities in the latter are Rajgród in the east, the rural municipality Grajewo in the southeast, the urban municipality Grajewo in the south, Szczuczyn in the southwest, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship the municipalities Biała Piska in the west, Ełk in the north and Kalinowo in the northeast. The district town of Ełk (Lyck) is about nine kilometers to the north.
There are a number of smaller lakes in the area. The river Ełk ( Leck or Lyck ) runs through the municipality from north to south.
This has an area of 230.47 km², 66 percent of which is used for agriculture and 22 percent for forestry.
history
The parish was re-established in 1973 after being divided into Gromadas from 1954 to 1972 . In the years from 1973 to 1975 it belonged to the Powiat Grajewski , which was dissolved in this form in 1975. Their area belonged to the Białystok Voivodeship from 1946 to 1975 and then to the same voivodeship on a small scale until 1998 . On January 1, 1999, the municipality came back to the powiat Ełcki and the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship, which was newly formed and corresponds to the Polish part of the former province of East Prussia .

traffic
The national road DK65 (formerly Reichsstraße 132 ) leads via the district town Ełk (Lyck) and Olecko ( Marggrabowa , also Oletzko ) to Gołdap (Goldap) - border crossing to Kaliningrad Oblast , Russia and in a south-easterly direction via Grajewo and Białystok to Bobrowniki - border crossing to Belarus .
In the community exist the railway stations Prostki (Prostken) and Lipińskie Małe (Lipinsken, Ksp. Ostrokollen , 1938 to 1945 Lindenfließ) on the Głomno – Białystok railway , which was opened in 1871 as the East Prussian Southern Railway . - Until 2001 the Ełcka Kolej Wąskotorowa (Lycker Kleinbahnen) served the stations Wiśniowo Ełckie (Wischniewen , 1938 to 1945 Kölmersdorf) , Kopijki (Goldenau) , Krzywe (Krzywen , 1907 to 1945 Rundfließ) and Zawady-Tworki (terminus; Sawadden , 1938 to 1945 border guard ).
The nearest international airport, Gdansk, is just as far away as the airports in Warsaw .
