Miechowo ( German  Miechowen , 1938 to 1945 Niederhorst ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , which belongs to the rural community Prostki (Prostken) in the powiat Ełcki ( Lyck district ).

Geographical location

Miechowo is located in the south-east of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, eleven kilometers south of the district town of Ełk (Lyck) .

history

The then Michowen was founded in 1546. Called Mniechowen after 1785 , the small estate village was then called Miechowen until 1938 .

In 1874, the place was incorporated into the newly established administrative district Gorczitzen ( Polish Gorczyce ), which was renamed a few years later in "District Borken " (Polish Borki ). It existed until 1945 and was part of the county elk in Administrative district Gumbinnen (1905: Administrative district Allenstein ) in the Prussian province of East Prussia . In 1910 Miechowen had 69 inhabitants.

On September 30, 1928, Miechowen lost its independence and was incorporated into the rural community of Borken .

On June 3, 1938, Miechowen was renamed "Niederhorst".

As a result of the war, the place came to Poland in 1945 along with all of southern East Prussia and received the Polish form of the name "Miechowo". Today it is the seat of a Schulzenamt (Polish Sołectwo ) and thus a village in the Gmina Prostki (Prostken) association in the powiat Ełcki ( Lyck district ), until 1998 the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then assigned to the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

Religions

Until 1945 Miechowen was parish in the Protestant Church Ostrokollen (1938 to 1945 Scharfenrade , Polish Ostrykół ) in the church province of East Prussia of the Church of the Old Prussian Union and in the Roman Catholic Church of St. Adalbert in Lyck (Polish Ełk ) in the Diocese of Warmia .

Today Miechowo belongs to the Catholic parish in Nowa Wieś Ełcka (Neuendorf) , which has a branch church in nearby Bobry (Bobern) . It is incorporated into the Diocese of Ełk of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland . The Protestant residents stick to the parish in the district town of Ełk (Lyck) , a branch parish of the parish in Pisz (Johannisburg) in the Masurian diocese of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
