Duchy of Angoulême
The county of Angoulême with the capital Angoulême already existed in the 9th century. It was owned by the Taillefer family until the beginning of the 13th century , when it was inherited by the Lusignan family.
In 1308, the French crown took over the county, added it to the Domaine royal , and passed it on as Paragium and later as the Duchy of Angoulême within the family.
