Grasgrün (spelling: GRASGRÜN) is a summer festival that has been held annually in the southern Thuringian district town of Meiningen since 2012 . It bundles different cultural offers during the summer vacation time under one label. The name of the festival emphasizes the open-air character of the series of events.

General

Through the cooperation of the city of Meiningen, the Meininger Theater , the Protestant parish and the MDR , Grasgrün offers a wide variety of cultural events in the form of concerts (classical, world music, crossover, jazz), opera and drama. A special feature of the series of events taking place in July and August is the open-air character. Various locations in the Meiningen urban area serve as a stage for the individual program items, for example the inner courtyard of Elisabethenburg Palace or the palace gardens .

The program, which is aimed at both broad audiences in the region and cultural tourists, includes the summer theater with the INSELbühne Leipzig every second year , concerts primarily from the genres of jazz and world music, the Meininger Organ Summer and, alternately, the Meininger Theater Summer Festival and the Concerts by the Meininger Hofkapelle in the Meininger steam locomotive works . The radio play weekend “Park Whispers” added a family-friendly program item to the festival from the start.

The aim of the festival is to unite the various cultural offers that the theater town of Meiningen offers in the summer months when there is no theater, and to achieve greater regional and national awareness through joint marketing and advertising.
