Greg's Diary 3 - It wasn't me! (Original title: Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days ) is an American literary film adaptation by director David Bowers from 2012 . The film is based on the third and fourth part of the book series Gregs Diary by Jeff Kinney .

The summer vacation is just around the corner, the final year of school is all but forgotten and Greg Heffley is looking forward to the months off. While Greg would prefer to spend his vacation in front of the TV, his father has different ideas about well-spent vacation and so it happens that Greg finds himself on a camping trip with his old Boy Scout troop against his will. But a happy incident ensures that the trip comes to an abrupt end and Greg can finally hang out with his friend Rupert and spend the free time at the pool at the country club. When Holly Hills appears there, with whom Greg has long been in love, his life seems perfect. But whenever everything seems too beautiful, it probably is: Greg's older brother Rodrick cheats in the club, then Greg also loses his swimming trunks - and that's where the mess really begins.

Filming began in Vancouver on August 8, 2011 and continued through October 7, 2011.

The official release in the United States was on August 3, 2012. The film was released in Germany on August 20, 2012. The film has been available on Blu-ray and DVD in German-speaking countries since January 25, 2013 .

The official radio play for the movie was released on June 7, 2013, in which Marco Eßer took over the role of Greg and the first-person narrator.

  • Although the film is only the third in the series, it bears the name of the fourth book. This is because the film adaptation is a mix from the third book It's Enough! and the successor , it wasn't me! is.
  • Jeff Kinney, the author of the book series, made a brief appearance as Heather Hill's father.

Differences from the book

  • After Holly Hills calls Greg "Fregley", he no longer wants to be with her in the book. In the movie, he's still in love with her.
  • The plot has been changed a bit, actually it's not Greg's father who arranges the trips, but his mother.
  • Greg doesn't lose his swimming trunks in the book, and Rodrick isn't seen in the club once in the book.
  • The term “golf club” as it is called in the book becomes a “country club” in the film.
  • At the end of the third book and at the beginning of the fourth book, a girl named Trista appears, but she does not appear in the film.

The film received mixed reviews. At Rotten Tomatoes , the film got a rating of 50 percent.

Neil Genzlinger of the New York Times primarily criticized the director's work: “The execution is not great. David Bowers, the director, allows too much unbelievable acting. ”( English “ The execution isn't great. At the end of 2012, List said that no sequel was planned. Gordon mentioned that the likelihood of a sequel was very slim as the actors were getting too old for the roles. Kinney, the author of the book series, said that he would like to see a sequel in the form of an animated film . 2017 became Greg's diary - Bad Trap! published, which however has a new line-up.
