The Grinna is a former multi-purpose ship owned by the Norwegian authority Kystdirektoratet . In 2009 it was sold to Germany and used in particular in the area of offshore wind farms in the North and Baltic Seas .

history

The ship was built under hull number 20 at the Norwegian shipyard Volda Mek. Verksted built for the Norwegian authority Kystdirektoratet, which became the Kystverket in 2002. The keel was laid on June 1, 1979, the launch on February 18, 1980. It was completed on March 21, 1980.

The ship was used by Kystverket with a crew of eight primarily for the construction and installation, monitoring and maintenance of various sea ​​marks along the Norwegian coast.

In 2007 the ship was decommissioned and laid up in Ålesund in October . In 2009 it was sold by Norsk Megling & Auksjon to the company Gesellschaft für Innovative Schiffstechnologie MS “Beaufort I” based in Leer and handed over on September 19, 2009. The ship was advertised for NOK 4,000,000  .

Under the flag of Antigua and Barbuda brought the ship was in the wake of Briese shipping in Leer bereedert . It was used u. a. as a safety ship and in environmental monitoring in the offshore energy sector, but also for research trips by the Alfred Wegener Institute . The crew consisted of five people, so that cabins were available for five technicians or researchers.

In October 2017, the company for innovative ship technology MS "Beaufort I" sold the ship for EUR 80,000  to the Danish company Smedegaarden, which is also active in the area of ​​ship demolition.

At the beginning of 2018, Smedegaarden sold the ship to the Cook Islands- based company Taio Shipping. The transfer trip from Denmark to the Cook Islands lasted from April 14th to July 14th, 2018. For the transfer trip the ship was brought under the Vanuatu flag . The ship, renamed Grinna II , is operated by Taio Shipping under the flag of the Cook Islands and used for the movement of goods between the islands of the Cook Islands. The cabins on board are partially offered for passengers.

The ship is also used by the Cook Islands Seabed Minerals Authority for the exploration and mining of ore deposits in the Cook Islands' exclusive economic zone .

Technical data and equipment

The drive takes place by two MWM - Diesel engines of the type TBD232-V12, each with 318  kW power . The motors act on two variable pitch propellers via reduction gears .

Two diesel generators are available for power generation, each driven by a MWM TD 226/6 diesel engine with an output of 84 kW. A diesel generator powered by a John Deere 6068TFM50 diesel engine is available as an emergency power generator and to drive the bow thruster .

The deck superstructures are located in the rear of the ship (approximately from the middle of the ship). The deck superstructures have four decks - the lower deck housed in the hull , the main deck, the boat deck and the bridge deck. In front of the superstructure there is an open working deck with a 6 × 2 meter hatch through which a cargo hold can be reached. There is a raised forecastle deck in front of the open working deck . A hydraulically driven crane is located here which can lift 6 t with a 10 m display and 3 t with a 18 m display. Storage space is available under the forecastle deck. The diesel generator for operating the bow thruster and emergency operation is also housed here. An auxiliary crane, which can lift 935 kg with a 7 m extension, is located on the boat deck at the stern of the ship. The ship is also equipped with a winch , two side booms and a capstan head .

Ten single cabins are available on board, eight on the lower deck, one on the main deck and one on the boat deck. On the main deck are u. a. also the galley, storage rooms for provisions, a mess and a lounge, which can also be used for meetings, and a workshop.

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class C).
