Rupert Alexander Lloyd Grint (born August 24, 1988 in Harlow ) is a British actor . He was best known for the role of Ron Weasley in the film adaptations of the Harry Potter novels.

Life

Rupert Grint was born in the English county of Essex in 1988 to the housewife Jo Parsons and the souvenir dealer Nigel Grint. He has four younger siblings, a professional rallycross racing brother and three sisters. From a young age he played theater in school and with a local amateur group. In 2004 he left the Richard Hale School with a General Certificate of Secondary Education , which corresponds to a secondary school certificate . Georgia Groome has been his girlfriend since 2011. In May 2020 they became parents to a daughter.

Career

As a fan of the Harry Potter novels, Grint applied at the age of eleven with no film experience with a video in which he raps a song he wrote himself for the role of Ron Weasley in the film adaptation of the first novel Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone . The great success of this film led him to become known as his two fellow actors Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson . Grint himself says that he and his film character are similar in many ways - as examples he cites the red hair, the fear of spiders and his large family.

In 2002 he starred in the British comedy Thunderpants alongside Simon Callow and Stephen Fry as the cocky young professor Alan A. Allen. He then directed the Harry Potter sequels Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002), Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004) and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). This was followed by the film On the Road with Evie , in which he stood in front of the camera alongside Julie Walters and Laura Linney . In 2007 he was in the fifth Harry Potter film adaptation Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix .

In 2008, Grint was one of the best-paid young actors in Hollywood , according to Forbes Magazine . Between June 2007 and June 2008, he received fees totaling 5 million US dollars and ranked eighth. In 2009, the drama Cherrybomb , in which he plays the leading role, premiered at the Berlinale . In 2012 he played the British aviator Robert Smith in the Norwegian anti-war film Into the White . In the official Lego House music video by Ed Sheeran , Grint embodies a stalking fan .

In the film CBGB (2013) about the New York cult club of the same name , Grint played the American musician Cheetah Chrome , guitarist in the band Rocket from the Tombs and The Dead Boys . Also in 2013 he played in Charlie Countryman alongside Shia LaBeouf , Evan Rachel Wood and Mads Mikkelsen . In 2017 he was accepted into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which awards the Oscars every year.
