Héctor Miguel Herrera López (born April 19, 1990 in Tijuana , Baja California ) is a Mexican football player who plays in midfield . He has been under contract with Atlético Madrid since 2019 .
Life
society
Herrera was trained in the junior division of CF Pachuca and began his professional career in the Segunda División with various farm and cooperation teams of the Tuzos . During this time he won the third division championship of the Liga de Ascenso three times in a row with the Universidad del Fútbol in the Clausura 2009, the Apertura 2009 and the Clausura 2010.
Herrera made his debut for the first team of CF Pachuca in the Mexican Primera División on July 23, 2011 in a 4-1 home defeat by Santos Laguna . He scored his first goal in the top Mexican division on January 5, 2013 in a 2-0 home win against Atlante .
In the summer of 2013 Herrera moved to FC Porto for a transfer fee of ten million euros , with whom he won the Portuguese football championship in the 2017/18 season.
For the 2019/20 season Herrera moved to the Spanish Primera División at Atlético Madrid . He signed a contract running until June 30, 2022.
National team
Herrera played a total of 20 games for the Mexican U-23 team , with which he won the 2012 Olympic football tournament and the prestigious Toulon tournament. In the latter tournament, Herrera was also voted best player.
Since 2012 Herrera has also played in various senior national team games and is part of the Mexican squad at the 2013 Confederations Cup , where he played in the second group match against Brazil (0-2).
At the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, he was in the starting line-up in all four Mexican games.
