Ivan Šaponjić ( Serbian - Cyrillic Иван Шапоњић ; born August 2, 1997 in Nova Varoš , BR Yugoslavia ) is a Serbian football player who is currently under contract with Atlético Madrid .
Career
societies
Beginnings in Serbia
Šaponjić played for the youth teams of FK Zlatar Nova Varoš and Sloboda Užice . In 2013 he moved to the youth team of Partizan Belgrade . On November 30, 2013, he made his debut at the age of 16 for the first team of Partizan Belgrade in the game against Spartak Subotica . On May 30, 2014, he signed his first professional contract with Partizan. He scored his first goal for Partizan on April 8, 2015 in the cup match against Jagodina . He scored his first league goal on April 13, 2015 against OFK Belgrade . In the 2014/2015 season he won the Serbian Championship and the Serbian Football Cup with Partizan . He left Partizan on January 12, 2016 and signed a five and a half year contract with Benfica Lisbon .
Between Lisbon and Waregem
On January 12, 2016, Šaponjić moved to Benfica Lisbon , where he was in the squad of the second team . By the end of the 2015/16 season he made 19 appearances (13 times from the start) in the Segunda League , in which he scored 5 goals. In the 2016/17 season he scored 3 goals in 21 league appearances (10 times from the start).
For the 2017/18 season , Šaponjić switched to the Belgian first division club SV Zulte Waregem on loan . He came in the regular season on 21 appearances (7 times in the starting XI) in the Pro League, in which he scored 5 goals. In the subsequent play-offs for the Europa League , Šaponjić was substituted on 10 times and scored a goal.
For the 2018/19 season , Šaponjić returned to Benfica's second team and scored 6 goals in 28 league appearances (17 times in the starting XI).
Atlético Madrid
For the 2019/20 season, Šaponjić moved to the Spanish first division club Atlético Madrid , with whom he signed a contract that ran until June 30, 2022.
National team
He played for the Serbian U-17 national team . He currently plays for the Serbian U-19 , Serbian U-20 and Serbian U-21 national teams. With the U-17 he took part in the U-17 European Championship in 2014 and with the U-19 in the U-19 European Championship in 2015 . With the U-20 he won the U-20 World Championship in 2015 .
