history
Before the Second World War, many Dresden students played sports in the Academic SV Dresden , which had its club premises on Zellescher Weg . The club celebrated successes in hockey, ice hockey, tennis and athletics, but was forcibly dissolved in 1945.
The USV is part of the tradition of the HSG Wissenschaft TH Dresden, the university sports association of the Technical University of Dresden founded on February 16, 1949 . When the university was renamed from TH to TU Dresden in 1961, the name of the HSG also changed to "Wissenschaft TU Dresden". It was only called "HSG TU Dresden" since the addition of "science" was dropped in 1973, which was previously common in GDR university sports associations (see HSG Wissenschaft Halle ).
In the time of the GDR , other sections such as badminton were affiliated with the HSG , but these were dissolved. In 1960 the ice hockey section was delegated to SC Einheit Dresden and dissolved there ten years later. Other successful sections of the HSG during this time were rowing (three-time GDR champion in double sculls ; 1954, 1956 and 1957) and tennis (six-time GDR team champion men ; 1963-1965, 1969, 1971, 1979).
With the HSG Lok HfV Dresden there was another university sports association that was successful in nationwide championships.
On June 26, 1990, the USV TU was re-established in its current form as a registered association .
