Hans Thomann (artist)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Thomann (born June 8, 1957 in Niederuzwil ; legal resident in Märwil TG) is a Swiss painter and graphic artist , sculptor and installation artist .

Life

Hans Thomann was born in Niederuzwil. Despite his desire to become an artist, his parents insisted on initial training as a mechanical engineer, which was very helpful to him in his later work. From 1978 to 1980 he attended the arts and crafts school in St. Gallen . In 1983 he completed the master class with Mario Merz in Salzburg . Since then, his workshop has produced a large number of works of art in various areas of activity such as painting, graphics, sculptures, art in architecture and art in the church sector. Hans Thomann lives and works in St. Gallen and is a member of Visarte (professional association of visual artists in Switzerland) and the Swiss St. Lukas Society for Art and Church.

Works

In his work, Thomann refers, according to his own statement, to the human being as archetypal hero or as being permanently redesigning himself. For him, art thus becomes “personal work on oneself”. Whether a work of art is liked or not is not the criterion, but rather it should raise new questions, for example about the new world. Every generation has to contribute anew.
