history

Church in Heilsberg

The village of Heilsberg was first mentioned in documents as early as 822–826.

In 1818 Goethe wrote about Heilsberger and the church there:

The inscription from Heilsberg quotes: “To the sacred places where Saint Boniface himself or his assistants first announce the Gospel to the Thuringians, we reckon cheaply a hill between Rudolstadt and Remda, where a little house of God was built not far from a healing spring after the village settled, named Heilsberg, to indicate how many people on this hill sought and found their salvation. "

The memorial stone in question, to which the quote from Goethe refers, was later brought to a museum in Weimar .

On January 1, 1997, Heilsberg, the towns of Remda and Teichel and nine other places formed the new town of Remda-Teichel . On January 1, 2019 Heilsberg became a district of Rudolstadt as part of the incorporation of Remda-Teichel.
