Heinrich Karl Wilhelm IV. Prince of Carolath-Beuthen (born November 29, 1783 in Kotzenau , † July 14, 1864 in Teplitz ) was a freelance gentleman and Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

Origin and family

Henry came from the aristocratic house Carolath-Bytom . His parents were Heinrich Karl Erdmann III. Prince of Carolath-Beuthen (1759–1817) and Amalia Augusta Carolina Louise of Saxony-Meiningen (1762–1798). As the firstborn son, he followed his father in primogeniture in 1817 as the fourth Prince of Carolath-Beuthen in the rule. In 1861, when he was awarded the titleHighness ”, his status was confirmed.

Heinrich's first marriage was with Adelheid Countess von Pappenheim (1797–1849). The marriage resulted in two daughters:

In his second marriage in 1851 he married Alma Luise Caroline Adelheid Blanca Clotilde Freiin von Fircks (1822-1887).

Since he had no male heirs from both marriages, his great-nephew and grandson Karl zu Carolath-Beuthen (1845-1912) followed him in the Primogeniture as the fifth Prince of Carolath-Beuthen.

Career

Carolath-Beuthen began his career as an officer in the Prussian army in 1799 as an ensign in the "von Schenck" dragoon regiment (No. 7) , advanced to secondary lieutenant in 1800 , took part in the Fourth Coalition and in 1807 received his departure , as well as permission to wear the regimental uniform.

In 1808 he was awarded the Order of Vladimir IV class . His promotion to staff assistant master with patent from 1811 took place in 1813. At the same time he was aggregated to the 1st West Prussian Dragoon Regiment . In the same year he became a real captain and took part in the wars of liberation . He fought with distinction at Montmirail ( Iron Cross II. Class ; Order of Vladimir IV. Class), Château-Thierry , Laon with distinction (Iron Cross I Class) and at La Chaussée with distinction ( Bavarian Military Merit Order I Class ). In 1815 he was commanded to serve as a wing adjutant to the king , added to the Guard Dragoon Regiment and advanced to major . As a real wing adjutant, he was allowed to wear the French Military Merit Order in 1816 . He rose to lieutenant colonel in 1818 and became leader of the 2nd contingent of the 3rd Liegnitz Landwehr Regiment. He received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves , in 1820. Also in 1820 he was transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the 12th Landwehr Regiment. This was followed in 1826 the character of the Colonel and the Ernenennung the chief hunter . In 1830 he left the Landwehr with the character of Major General .

Carolath-Beuthen was sent to England in 1830 on the occasion of Wilhelm IV's accession to the throne . In 1831 he received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, and in 1835 was transferred to the army officers. In 1840 he received the Order of the Red Eagle First Class and in 1844 the character of Lieutenant General . He said goodbye in 1848, received the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with diamonds in 1849 and finally became a Knight of the High Order of the Black Eagle in 1861 . Finally, in 1863, he was given the character of a general of the cavalry.

Carolath-Beuthen was also a member of the Prussian State Council . He was also Landtag Marshal of the Provincial Parliament of the Province of Silesia . In the years 1847/48 he was a member of the First and Second United State Parliaments . From 1854 he was a member of the Prussian manor house .
