The Hellenstein-Gymnasium (short: HG ) is a general education high school in Heidenheim an der Brenz in eastern Baden-Württemberg .
history
The Hellenstein-Gymnasium is the oldest grammar school in Heidenheim. It was founded before 1500 as a Latin school . After the establishment of a secondary school in 1834, it was converted into a combined Latin and secondary school in 1850. In 1899, today's representative school building , built in the Wilhelmine style , was inaugurated. In 1905 it became a Realprogymnasium, and in 1914 the Abitur was passed for the first time in the history of the grammar school . In 1937 it was named Horst Wessel Oberschule under the National Socialist government . It was not until 1953 that it was given the current name Hellenstein-Gymnasium . In 1955 the school building was extended by two floors, and in 1963 a separate gym was built. The eight-year high school train of the G8 was introduced in 2004. Open all-day care with working groups and a cafeteria has existed since 2006. In 2013, the Hellenstein-Gymnasium became the first Fairtrade School in Baden-Württemberg and in this context received the school prize and a special prize in the development school competition of the Federal President by Joachim Gauck in 2014 . Since 2017 the Hellenstein-Gymnasium has been an interested UNESCO project school and a school without racism - school with courage .
