Helmut Faust

Helmut Faust (born March 31, 1928 in Osterode , East Prussia ; † March 13, 2008 in Leipzig ) was a German pedagogue , educational scientist and from 1978 to 1993 professor of pedagogy at the University of Leipzig . Before that, during the GDR he was a manager in the public education department of the administration of the Nordhausen district .

Live and act

Helmut Faust was the son of the telegraph officer Otto Faust and Charlotte Faust, nee Nadolny, and the youngest of three children. His two older brothers died during the Second World War . From 1934 to 1942 he attended elementary school in Osterode and in 1942 began pedagogical training at the teacher training institute in Patschkau ( Upper Silesia ). In 1944 he attended the teacher training institutes in Kielce , Zakopane and Neisse ( Nysa ). From 1938 to 1945 Faust was a member of the Hitler Youth and the German Young People . In March 1945 he succeeded in following his parents to Klettenberg in Thuringia - they had already moved there in 1944 - and worked there as a farm worker for a few months .

From December 1945 he attended the Keilhau pedagogical college , which he completed in 1946 with the examination to become a new teacher. He passed the examination for teaching at elementary schools in 1950 in Nordhausen and taught from 1946 to 1958 as a new teacher at the elementary school in Liebenrode . After studying at a distance, he passed the state examination in 1957 with the qualification to teach German.

Faust was a member of the SED from 1949 to 1990 . As an elected honorary member, he was a member of the Nordhausen district council from 1949 to 1959 . In 1958 he became director of the pedagogical district cabinet and was then from 1964 to 1966 deputy district school councilor for teaching and education in the Nordhausen district.

Between 1959 and 1964 he completed a distance learning course in pedagogy at the pedagogical faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin and graduated with a university degree as a qualified pedagogue . In 1964, Faust began his academic career at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig , where he worked until he retired. After the fall of the Wall , there was a legal dispute with the Free State of Saxony over the continuation of his employment relationship, which Faust won in 1992. An appeal by the Free State was dismissed. Faust retired on March 31, 1993 when he reached the age limit.

Scientific activity at the University of Leipzig

On the recommendation of Adolf Kossakowski, Faust switched to the Karl Marx University of Leipzig as an aspirant in the field of psychology in 1964 and became senior research assistant at the Institute for Education in 1966. His PhD A to Dr. paed. with the title magna cum laude in 1968, the title of the title was the development of intellectual abilities in the classroom .

From 1969 to 1980 he was head of the interdisciplinary research groups “Skill Development” (1969–1975) and “Student Activity” (1976–1990) in the Pedagogy Section . In 1971 he became a university lecturer for didactics. After his dissertation ( PhD B ) in 1976 on the subject of developing the skills of pupils in classes 5–10 , he was head of the didactics department from 1977 and in 1978 became a full professor of didactics.

The focus of his teaching and research activities related to the subject areas "Didactics" (theory of teaching), "German methodology" and " Educational psychology ". In addition to his work as a university lecturer , Faust was head of the didactics research field at the Pedagogy Section from 1976 to 1990 . In 1976 he was first deputy director and then from 1980 to 1987 director of the Pedagogy Section .

Faust was also a member of the Scientific Council of the Academy of Pedagogical Sciences (APW) of the GDR (1971–1989) and of the coordination council of the Institute for Didactics of the APW (1971–1975).

In his subject area, didactics, Faust found recognition far beyond the borders of the GDR. In addition to well-founded cooperation with scientists from Bulgaria ( Sofia ), the ČSSR ( Olomouc ) and Poland ( Legnica ), he cooperated with renowned pedagogy professors such as J. Kangi ( University of Osaka ) and Gawrail Hrussanow ( University of Sofia ).

In addition to numerous subject-specific publications, Faust also published popular scientific articles and the like. a. in the university newspaper Leipzig and the newspaper Neues Deutschland .

Private

Faust was married twice. His first marriage had two children. He was non-denominational . After finishing his professional life, he lived near Sonneberg .
