Heinrich Hemsath

Heinrich Hemsath (born November 24, 1902 in Münster , † April 14, 1978 in Wiesbaden ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

biography

education and profession

Hemsath learned the trade of machine fitter. After his release from "protective custody" by the Nazis, he was unemployed until he was able to work as a master locksmith from 1936. From 1945 to 1956 he was head of the social affairs department and first alderman of Münster .

Hemsath died on a train journey from Kassel to Münster in Wiesbaden.

politics

Hemsath joined the SPD in 1919 and was a member of the city council in Münster from 1928 to 1933. After the seizure of power by the Nazis, he was sitting in 1933/34 " protective custody ".

After the Second World War he participated in the reconstruction of the SPD in Münster. He was a member of the state parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia from 1950 to 1959. From 1956 to 1958 he was Minister of Labor and Social Affairs in North Rhine-Westphalia in the Steinhoff cabinet . In 1959 he joined Georg-August Zinn's cabinet as Hessian Minister of State for Labor, Public Welfare and Health Care . He held the office until 1969. From 1962 to 1970 he was a member of the Hessian state parliament.
