Heseler Wald is the name of a nature reserve in the Lower Saxony municipality of Hesel in the district of Leer . The nature reserve is named after the forest of the same name .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 308 is around 25  hectares in size. It is almost congruent with the FFH area of the same name . The nature reserve is completely from the amount reported in the August 1969 conservation area surrounded "Hesel Forest and the surrounding area" and replaces it in the scope of the Nature Protection Ordinance. The area has been under nature protection since October 16, 2018. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Leer.

The nature reserve is located northeast of Leer within the eponymous forest area on a flat, undulating Geest ridge . It is formed by a grove beech forest with a high proportion of old English oak on silted sandy soil. In the areas shaded by beech trees there is no shrub layer . Dense young beech trees develop in clear areas. The herb layer is z. B. formed by schmiele , sorrel and thorn fern . In places there are coniferous forests with larch , spruce and Douglas fir . These are to be converted into natural oak or beech forests. Part of the area in the west of the nature reserve is left to develop naturally. The other forest stands in the nature reserve are managed for forestry taking into account the nature conservation purpose.

The nature reserve is the habitat of various animal and plant species, including various bats , black and middle woodpeckers and various invertebrates .

The nature reserve is almost completely surrounded by forest communities of the Hesel Forest. In the east it borders on a grassland area and the forester's house Kloster Barthe . Several forest paths run through the nature reserve .
