The Hohberg ( 368  m ), popularly known as Hubbrch , is a mountain in the Bautzen district in Saxony . It is located southeast of the center of Sohland on the Spree in the Lusatian Bergland and should not be confused with the Hohberg ( 418  m ) near Schirgiswalde, which is just under four kilometers north-west .

geography

The wooded hilltop rises to the left of the Spree valley . It is surrounded by the Sohlander Dorfbach in the west and by the Rosenbach in the east . The Oberoderwitz – Wilthen railway runs north of the Hohberg , and state road 116 from Sohland to Schluckenau runs south . The Bismarck monument is located south of the Hohberg. At the foot of the Hohberg extend in the north Niedersohland, in the northeast Neusorge , in the east Äußerstniedersohland , in the southeast Äußerstmittelohland , in the southwest Obersohland and in the west Mittelohland.

In the north rises the spring mountain ( 353  m ), in the northeast the Schafberg ( 348  m ), southeast the Hornsberg ( 402  m ) and in the south the Brandbusch ( 443  m ).

description

The Hohberg is an elevation in front of the third ridge of the Lausitzer Bergland to the north and forms a section of the edge heights of the uppermost Spree valley. There are low granodiorite cliffs on its summit. To the north of the mountain is the Rote Hof , to the west is the "Bruno H. Bürgel" observatory and to the south-east is the Rosensee. South of the Hohberg is the Bismarck monument on the state road in the valley of the Brandbusch.

On old maps, the Hohberg is called Hoppricht or Hofeberg .

The mountain is little frequented as its wooded summit offers no view. On the other hand, on the edge of the isolated Hohberg forest area, there are good views over the surrounding valleys with the scattered localities of Sohland. The green marked hiking trail leading over the northern slope from Uhyst am Taucher to Äußerstniedersohland provides a wide view of the Spreetal with the Sohland reservoir as far as the calf stones .
