Elin Holmlöv (born August 5, 1987 in Knivsta ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who was active in the course of her career at AIK Solna , the University of Minnesota-Duluth , Tornado Moskowskaja Oblast and the Segeltorps IF . Holmlöv won the Swedish championship title twice and the IIHF European Women Champions Cup three times . With the Swedish national team , she won bronze medals at the World Cup in 2005 and 2007 .

Career

Elin Holmlöv started her career at Rimbo IF before joining the women's team at AIK Solna in 2002. With this she became Swedish champion in 2004 and 2005 and thus qualified for participation in the IIHF European Women Champions Cup . In both competitions, the AIK won what was then the highest ice hockey competition for European women's ice hockey clubs.

Between 2006 and 2009 she studied at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and played for their women's ice hockey team in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). In 2008 she won the NCAA Women's Championship with the Duluth Bulddogs . In 2009 she returned to Sweden to better prepare for the 2010 Winter Olympics and played for the Segeltorps IF in the Riksserien . With the SIF she won the Swedish championship in 2010.

In the 2011/12 season, Holmlöv and her national teammates Kim Martin and Danijela Rundqvist were under contract at Tornado Moskowskaja Oblast in the Russian women's ice hockey league . With Tornado Holmlöv won the Russian championship in 2012 and 2013, and the IIHF European Women Champions Cup in 2012 .

In 2013 she returned to Sweden to begin rehabilitation for a back injury that had plagued her in 2006. In the course of the 2013/14 season she returned to play and initially played for Munksund-Skuthamns SK . In the following season she won the Swedish runner-up with the AIK again before ending her career.

International

Elin Holmlöv took part with the Swedish women's national team at the 2005 World Championships in Sweden and 2007 in Canada, where she won the bronze medal. She was also nominated for the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, but was unable to take part in the Olympic ice hockey tournament due to a back injury.

Elin Holmlöv made history on November 7, 2008 when she scored both goals in the Swedes' 2-1 victory over Canada - the Swedish national team's first ever win against Canada.

In 2009 and 2012 Elin Holmlöv was recognized as Årets hockeytjej and was the first recipient to receive the award more than once.

In total, she scored 50 goals in 167 international matches for Sweden.
