action

The deputy editor-in-chief of the Grevenbroicher Tagblatt, Horst Schlämmer , has finally had enough of his job. Looking for a new challenge, he decides to go into politics. He founds the HSP, the "Horst Schlämmer Party". His ambitious goal: he wants to become Federal Chancellor . The political orientation of the HSP is liberal, conservative and left. Under the motto "Yes Weekend", he faces Angela Merkel in the TV chancellor duel and proposes the Bundeshasen (rabbit power for Germany) as the new coat of arms. Another goal: his hometown Grevenbroich is to become the federal capital.

The actress Alexandra Kamp , who falls in love with Schlämmer during a reading, can win numerous prominent supporters for him. In order to make his party interesting for the youth, Schlämmer convinced the rapper Bushido to write a promotional song for the HSP. With the help of interviews and discussions with politicians like Jürgen Rüttgers , Lale Akgün , Otto Fricke , Claudia Roth , Gesine Lötzsch and Cem Özdemir , he collects ideas for his election campaign.

When it was reported on television on election day that his party had achieved 37 percent, Schlämmer passed out and saw in a dream that he was sworn in as Federal Chancellor. Eventually it turns out that the TV station made a mistake; the HSP only achieved 0.37 percent. Schlammer's dream of a political career has therefore burst - and the charm of power ceases to work.

production

Directed by Angelo Colagrossi , who wrote the script together with Hape Kerkeling . The shooting lasted around three months until it ended in June 2009.

Downtown Kaarst can be seen when Schlämmer and Ulle try to collect signatures for the HSP. Some scenes in which Ulle goes on the hunt for signatures alone were shot in downtown Viersen .

On the eve of the film starts was in the ZDF in Lanz Markus advertised with a "Horst Schlämmer Special" for the film.

The right-wing party Die Republicans alluded to Horst Schlämmer and his “election campaign” in an election commercial. The district court of Cologne banned the broadcast at the instigation of Kerkeling's lawyer by means of an injunction .

Various celebrities supported the film through their participation, including Kay One , Bushido , Michael Schumacher , Cherno Jobatey , Gunter Gabriel , Jürgen Drews and Jürgen Domian .

reception

Most of the critics rated the film negatively.

Filmstarts.de refers to Isch as candidates! in his online criticism as "a comedic misfire" that does not live up to the "persistently stoked expectations." The lexicon of international films describes the film as "a half-baked mixture of clothes and satire about Hape Kerkeling's popular fictional character, the hero of a full-length Feature films are not able to convince. Although some gags and single acts ignite, the overall lack of ideas in the script and the hard-working direction spoil the fun of the appealing and cheeky initial idea. "

Cinema judged: “Nevertheless, the best thing about the film is the idea of dragging the comfort of the Germans as well as the vision-free hollowness of their politicians through the cocoa. Its implementation with dull pictures and without a recognizable arc of suspense makes the viewer long for the credits after half an hour at the latest . A string of sometimes more, sometimes less successful sketches does not make a movie. After watching the film, instead of amused memories, you only get the feeling that you have wasted your time. "

Die Welt said: “Hape Kerkeling's humor suffers from gasping : In his film 'Horst Schlämmer - Isch kandidiere', instead of angry and biting satire, the viewer can only expect good entertainment. Because unfortunately Schlammer's election campaign is just as lukewarm as that of those he caricatures ... Instead of evil, biting satire, he just wants to be nice and entertaining. And so, after the Rüttgers visit, with the start of the election campaign on his own behalf, 'Isch is a candidate' turns into a more and less amusing comedy. "

The Rheinische Post found the film “shamelessly bad” and criticized the cinematic implementation: “In this almost 90-minute farce, you can never really tell whether it has been trimmed to be amateurish in a highly professional manner or is simply amateurish in the end." "Director Angelo Colagrossi (Hape Kerkeling's former partner) does not give the impression that he has a real filming concept, except perhaps the good faith that the Schlämmer would wear it ", said Tom Westerholt from 1LIVE .
