The 1937/38 season was the fourth season of the Hovedserien , the highest Norwegian ice hockey league . Master was for the second time in the club's history Ski and Fotballklubben Trygg . Stabæk IF relegated to the second division.

In the main round, the league was divided into two groups of four teams each. In the main round, each of the teams played a total of six games. The two group winners qualified for the championship final. The last two placed had to compete against each other in the first round of the relegation. Their losers had to play against the second division champions to stay up. Each team received two points for a win, one point for a draw and zero points for a defeat.
