The nature reserve Hundekehlefenn combines in the glacial trough of Grunewaldseenkette the southern Grunewaldsee with the Hundekehlesee in the north. The swampy, boggy basin is located in Berlin's Grunewald and belongs to the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf district . The water connection between the lakes is provided by the "Hundekehlekanal", which runs on the east side of the Fenn. The eastern part of the Fenn continues the most popular Berlin dog run area on the Grunewaldsee.

Since 1987 the Hundekehlefenn has been designated as a ten hectare nature reserve with the typification moor . The area is divided into the swampy, swampy, now largely drained part and open meadow areas with sparse birch trees . In this part, similar to the Rehwiese, the channel character of the Grunewald lake chain can be clearly seen. Together with the Riemeisterfenn between Krummer Lanke and Langem Luch , which is also part of the chain of lakes , the Hundekehlefenn forms the last remnant of the original vegetation that remained in Berlin. The remaining flora and fauna of mesotrophic moor ponds and the remains of the alder forests are to be preserved, the vegetation silted up should develop without disturbance and the layer structure of the moor area should be preserved.

The term "Hundekehle" is possibly derived from the old term "hundquele "as a collection point for packs of dogs during the driven hunt , which the proximity of the Grunewald hunting lodge would suggest. The name expert Schlimpert, on the other hand, leads the name back to hunt for 'Ackermaß' and kele for 'Schlucht' (see more detailed Hundekehlesee ). The Low German part of the name Fenn denotes a 'marshy inland lake' and goes back to the settlement of the Mark Brandenburg by the Flemings ( Fläming ) in the 12th century (see more precisely: Grunewaldseenkette ).

On the west side above the Fenn lies the Grunewald Forestry Office, the “Hundekehle” forestry since 1923 with a wonderful historical building that is hardly inferior to the splendor of the hunting lodge and that of “Paulsborn” on the neighboring Grunewaldsee. The building was built in 1907 as a police riding post with a prison and living quarters as well as a stable and a coach house. The forester's house was the 1963 location of Scotland Yard chasing Dr. Mabuse with Klaus Kinski and in 1966 the television series Förster Horn .
