History and naming

Berlin memorial plaque on the Lichterfelde manor house

In 1289 an Arnoldus de Lichterfeld appeared in a document; In 1316 Lichtervelde was named as a village. Around 1375 the von Britzkes were mentioned as the owner of various rights (taxes, jurisdiction); their influence ended in 1692. Since then, the rule over the manor Lichterfelde changed several times within a short period of time, for example to Daniel Ludolf von Danckelman around 1700 , to the Prussian war commissioner Heinrich Cunow around 1725/1726, in the later 18th century that of von Bülow , then that of Béguelin.

The manor house in its current basic form was probably built in 1780 on an older previous building. Neither the builder nor his original use are known.

After several renovations, the large landowner Johann Anton Wilhelm von Carstenn finally moved into the manor house. In 1865 he had acquired the Lichterfelde estate, among other things, in order to establish a villa colony there. After him, the manor house is still called Carstenn-Schlösschen today.

After the end of the Second World War in 1945, the manor was initially taken over by American soldiers with the purpose of founding a neighborhood home . In 1948 the building was taken over by the newly founded neighborhood home Steglitz e. V. rented for social purposes. At the beginning of the 1970s, the entire building was used by the association. In 1982 the facility was restructured and a day-care center and a day-care center were added. After the association filed for bankruptcy in 1999 , the district center Steglitz e. V. the building. Today, social counseling, cultural events and courses on various topics are offered there. The building is a listed building and is one of the cultural monuments in Lichterfelde .

The Lichterfelde Palace Park

The castle park belonging to the Lichterfelde manor extends over 5.7  hectares (without a nature reserve ) from the Hindenburgdamm to the Teltow Canal . Part of the Schlosspark Lichterfelde includes a fenced nature reserve, the NSG Schlosspark Lichterfelde with a size of 2.6 hectares. It is a remainder of the original Bäketal , which has been under nature protection since March 3, 1923 (official regulation on August 19, 1986) and is therefore the oldest nature reserve in Berlin . Wood-dwelling insects and various species of birds such as woodpeckers , nightingales , robins and wrens are resident here . Carstenn had the park rebuilt in 1867. It can be easily reached by public transport, e.g. B. with the M85 bus .

The forest-like part of the park is not accessible as a fenced nature reserve. A tree register with the basic data was recorded in October 2013 for the Schlosspark Lichterfelde . Tree genus and trunk circumference are determined for 295 trees. These trees are all located in the public part of the park. Some of the park trees are over 140 years old.
