Toboggan run

The Lange Luch is a nature reserve in the Berlin district of Dahlem on the edge of the Grunewald . The Luch is a swampy - boggy depression in the glacial channel of the Grunewaldseenkette between the Riemeisterfenn in the southwest and the Grunewaldsee in the northeast. The water connection is established by a canal that runs on the east side of the lynx.

At the southern end of the Langen Luch, the flat foothills of a natural toboggan run arrive , which begins near the Dahlem “ski jump path” and runs in a long curve over around 1000 meters down the Teltow slope into the lowlands.

Nature reserve - protection purpose

The city of Berlin placed the 15  hectare wetland under nature protection as early as 1960 . The ordinance of 1960 and its subsequent amendments were updated and replaced on June 26, 1987 by a new ordinance on the Langes Luch nature reserve . It is emphasized as the protective purpose (quote):

  1. To preserve the communities of the open transitional moor, the swinging lawns and the alder forests ,
  2. preserve rare and endangered plants,
  3. to secure the habitat for the fauna typical of bog ,
  4. to preserve the layer structure of the moorland for natural and cultural reasons. (Quote end)

Flora and fauna

These goals are to be achieved in particular by wetting the bog and by removing vegetation that is not typical for bog, such as late bird cherry (Prunus serotina) or ash maple (Acer negundo) . The nutrient-poor, acidic water offers the endangered marsh orchid (Orchis palustris) or the swan flower (Butomus umbellatus) the ideal environment. Special spider species and beetles live in the biotope - the water beetle Haliplus fulvicollis , which was included in the Brandenburg Red List of water beetles as "critically endangered" , was found in the Langen Luch in 1987 according to this list.
