Müggelspreeniederung Köpenick
Setup date January 24, 1995 to June 30, 2017

The Müggelspreeniederung Köpenick nature reserve borders the Müggelspree in the north and the settlement areas south of the Müggelspree and the Dämeritzsee. In the east it is bounded by Brandenburg, the "cap" and parts of the "Kaniswall". The northeast part of the Seddinsee is also part of the nature reserve. In the south, the forest paths "oven rack" and "hay path" form the protective border. The nature reserve is the largest in Berlin . As early as 1995, the Gosener meadows with an area of 402.2  hectares were declared a nature reserve. This was in the southeast of the city in the Treptow-Köpenick district between the Gosen Canal and the municipality of Gosen-Neu Zittau in Brandenburg.

A touristic development is not planned. It is one of the last closed wet meadow and quarry forest complexes in Berlin, which is divided up by the three flowing waters, the Gosener Canal, the Great Stream and the Old Spree . Here you can find endangered species of fish such as the chub , the gudgeon or the asp . The areas consist of forests, wet meadows and dry grassland biotopes, which are populated by 652 proven fern and flowering plant species. The cuckoo's light carnation , broad-leaved orchid and meadowsweet , for example, thrive in the meadows .

Furthermore, breeding birds such as the kingfisher , the crane , the black tern and the corncrake live in the area , which enjoy special protection in the area of the European bird sanctuary Müggelspree .

It is questionable whether planes from the new Berlin airport will fly over the nature reserve in the future in order to relieve residents at Müggelsee and in Erkner .
