IC 3357 is a spiral galaxy in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is an estimated 626 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 75,000 light years in diameter. It is listed as a member of the Virgo galaxy cluster under catalog number VVC 946 , but is too far away for that.
The galaxies NGC 4417 , NGC 4442 , IC 3328 , IC 3374 are located in the same area of the sky .
The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 7, 1904 .
