IC 3639 is a bar-spiral galaxy with an active nucleus of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Centaur in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 139 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years across. Together with PGC 42483 and PGC 42519 , it forms the gravitationally bound galaxy trio KTS 45 . It is also the namesake of the four galaxies IC 3639 group ( LGG 297 ).
The object was discovered by Lewis Swift on February 15, 1898 .
