I Saw the Light is a US biopic from the year 2015 . Directed by Marc Abraham , who also wrote the screenplay to the 1994 biography Hank Williams: The Biography of Colin Escott over the Country singer Hank Williams based. The main roles are played by Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen .

action

The last nine years are told from the life of the talented and difficult country singer Hank Williams , who in the course of his short life became one of the most influential songwriters and one of the most popular musicians in the USA. I Saw the Light is also one of the singer's most famous songs and was one of his first hits.

In 1944, the still unknown singer Hank Williams married the newly divorced Audrey Mae Sheppard at the local justice of the peace in a gas station. He works for the local radio station WSFA and appears in small pubs. His wife urges him to include her on the show during his appearances. Despite rather moderate singing skills, Hank complies with her request and also defends her in front of his band members. Due to his unreliability due to increasing alcohol consumption , he is fired from the station. In addition to improving his career, rehab helps him save his marriage.

The well-known music producer Fred Rose gave Williams a record deal with MGM Records and an appearance on the Louisiana Hayride radio show . Eventually he even manages to appear in the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville . He refuses a film role offered to him.

Shortly after his marriage to Audrey was divorced, Williams hitched up the girlfriend of the singer Faron Young, who also performed there, and married her shortly thereafter. His health deteriorated noticeably and he died of heart failure on New Year's Day 1953 at the age of 29 while driving to a concert in Ohio due to an intolerance to a drug.
