Channel One Cup Trophy (2010)

The Channel One Cup (formerly Izvestia Cup , Baltika Cup , Rosno Cup ) is an annual ice hockey tournament in Moscow and other Russian locations , in which the national teams from Sweden , Finland , Russia (formerly USSR ) and the Czech Republic (formerly ČSSR ) usually take part . The tournament is organized as a four-country tournament as part of the Euro Hockey Tour . This tournament series also includes the Czech Hockey Games in the Czech Republic , the Karjala Cup in Finland and the Sweden Hockey Games in Sweden .

history

The tournament was first held as an international ice hockey tournament on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution . In the following year as an international ice hockey tournament, in 1969, at the suggestion of sports commentator Boris Fedosov, the editorial team of the Soviet daily Izvestia took over the sponsorship of this sporting event, now under the name Izvestia Cup 1969 . The event also got a mascot, a snowman with an ice hockey stick - also one of Fedossov's ideas.

With the Canadian national ice hockey team and the then national ice hockey team of the FRG , other national teams took part in the tournament - at least at irregular intervals. After Izvestia withdrew as a sponsor, the Russian brewery Baltika stepped in as the name and sponsor of the Baltika Cup , so that the cup was named Russian Кубок пивоваренной компании Балтика ( "Cup of the Baltika Brewery Company" ). Subsequently, from the Rosno Cup 2004, the insurance group ROSNO sponsored the event for two years . Since the Channel One Cup in 2006 , the cup has been named after the Russian television broadcaster Kanal 1 .
