The Izvestia Cup 1971 ( Russian Турнир на приз газеты Известия , German: tournament for the prize of the newspaper " Известия " , German Izvestia , i.e. news ) was an ice hockey tournament , which this year on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Soviet ice hockey took place in Moscow from December 17-20, 1971 . In addition to the Soviet national selection , the national teams of Finland , Sweden and Czechoslovakia took part, with the Swedes only sending a B team, which was overrun by the competition. The Canadian team did not accept the invitation, as did the US team, which initially canceled due to scheduling, but ultimately for financial reasons.
