Jerome Thomas (* 20th January 1979 in Saint-Quentin , France ) is a French former boxer in the flyweight . He won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games, a gold medal at the 2001 World Championships, and a silver medal at the 2004 Olympic Games .

Amateur career

Jérôme Thomas was French light flyweight champion in 1998 and 1999, and French flyweight champion in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007.

After winning the silver medal at the Junior European Championships in 1997, he reached the quarter-finals at the 1998 European Championships . There he lost the fight for a medal place against Oleh Kyrjuchin . Also at the 1999 World Championships he was able to reach the quarter-finals, where he was eliminated this time against Omar Narváez .

At the European Championships 2000 he lost in the round of 16 against the Finn Juho Tolppola, but won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games. After victories against Erle Wiltshire, Drissa Tou and José Navarro, he was defeated in the semifinals against Bolat Shumadilow . He won another bronze medal at the 2001 Mediterranean Games .

At the World Championships in 2001 he won against Andrzej Rżany , Ivanas Stapovičius, Somjit Jongjohor , Alexandar Alexandrow and Wolodymyr Sydorenko , with which he won the gold medal and was the first French amateur world champion in boxing. He also won bronze at the European Championships in 2002 after losing to Aleksandar Aleksandrow in the semifinals.

In 2003 he won the gold medal at the EU championships and the silver medal at the world championships. After victories against Kaoru Murahashi, Mebarek Soltani, Violito Payla and Aleksandar Aleksandrow, he was defeated this time in the final against Somjit Jongjohor.

In 2004 he won gold again at the EU championships and reached the quarter-finals at the European championships , where he was eliminated by Georgi Balakschin . At the 2004 Olympic Games he defeated Akhil Kumar, Juan Payano , Tulashboy Doniyorov and Fuad Aslanov , before losing to Yuriorkis Gamboa in the final and therefore won the silver medal.

In 2005 he was eliminated from the Mediterranean Games in the quarterfinals and at the World Championships in the second preliminary round against Andry Laffita .

At the European Championships in 2006 he was only defeated in the semifinals against Samir Məmmədov and won bronze. However, he lost again in the preliminary round of the 2007 World Championships against Georgi Balakschin.

In 2008 he qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games by reaching the final of the European Olympic qualification . There he was defeated, however, in the preliminary round against Juan Payano.

Professional career

Jérôme Thomas made his professional debut on November 20, 2008. He remained unbeaten in 13 fights and was French champion and Mediterranean champion of the WBC in bantamweight. On January 28, 2012 he lost by knockout to Hassan Azaouagh and then ended his career.
