Jack
Jack [ dʒæk ] is a first name and family name .
Origin and meaning
Jack is an English name. It is traditionally used as a pet form for the first name John (German Johannes ), more rarely for the first names Jacob (English form of Jakob ), Jonathan , Joachim or James . Today it is also often given as an independent name.
The development from John to Jack probably came about through the diminutive Jenkin and Jankin ("little John"). However, a direct derivation from the French form Jacques of the name Jakob is also obvious.
The more common nickname for Jacob is Jake, the more common for James are Jamie and Jim.
