Jack Benjamin Simpson (born December 18, 1996 in London ) is an English football player . The first trained as a midfielder and later retrained as a central defender came from the youth work of the first division AFC Bournemouth .

Career

Simpson was born in south London and grew up in the south-west English coastal town of Weymouth . At the age of twelve he was drawn to AFC Bournemouth , not far away , and after four years he was given a two-year training contract. In the youth teams of the "Cherries" Simpson was initially on the road as a midfielder, but his later head coach Eddie Howe trained him to be a central defender.

He made the leap to the professional squad after signing a two-year contract in March 2016. At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he had gained a little playing experience in the amateur field at AFC Totton - the experience of being “hunted” by low-class opponents as a young talent, Simpson classified as possibly very valuable for a budding professional. In summer 2016 he traveled with the first team to the training camps in Spain and Dubai. In October 2017 he made his league cup debut against Middlesbrough FC and scored the first goal in the 3-1 win. He was also in the starting line-up in the quarter-final against Chelsea and three days later in his Premier League debut at Manchester City (0: 4) in December 2017.

Simpson extended his contract to summer 2020 in January 2018 and the next milestone followed in November 2018 when he made his debut in the English U21 team in a 5-1 friendly against Denmark . He completed a league cup quarter-final against Chelsea again in December 2018 and lost again. At the end of the 2018/19 season he played the outgoing five Premier League games and was in the starting line-up in the last three against FC Southampton , Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace .
