Aaron Christopher Ramsdale (born May 14, 1998 in Stoke-on-Trent ) is an English football goalkeeper . He won the 2017 U-19 European Championship in Georgia with England's youngsters and made his debut in the Premier League for AFC Bournemouth in the 2019/20 season .

Career

Club career

Ramsdale grew up in Chesterton , not far from the city of Newcastle-under-Lyme . He joined Sheffield United in the summer of 2014 , having previously trained with the Bolton Wanderers . He developed into one of the most hopeful English goalkeeping talents and signed his first professional contract with the "Blades" in May 2016. With the exception of two appearances in the FA Cup , however, he was not included in the first team in the course of the 2016/17 season and at the end of January 2017 he moved to the first division AFC Bournemouth for a rumored transfer fee of one million pounds. The decision on the part of Sheffield's sporting leadership to let Ramsdale go, was criticized in the professional world; Sheffield's coach Chris Wilder justified this with both economic and sporting requirements that in addition to regular goalkeeper Simon Moore , George Long and Jake Eastwood were adequate substitutes in the squad.

At his club in Bournemouth, Ramsdale initially only stayed in the extended squad and in January 2018 he was loaned to fourth division Chesterfield FC until the end of the current 2017/18 season. There he made his league debut against eventual champions Accrington Stanley on January 6, 2018 , which ended in a 4-0 defeat, in which Ramsdale also looked unhappy with an own goal. After 20 championship appearances, his loan engagement ended with relegation as bottom of the table . In the following year Bournemouth decided again on a loan deal with the young goalkeeper. The goal was now the third division AFC Wimbledon and from January 2019 he made 19 league games significantly to keep the "Dons" relegated.

After returning to Bournemouth AFC, he made his Premier League debut on matchday one of the 2019/20 season against his ex-club Sheffield United.

National team

Ramsdale made his first U-18 international for England on March 27, 2016 in a 4-1 win against Ireland and that same year he played the first game for the U-19s in August . In the U-19 he became a regular goalkeeper and was part of the team that won the 2017 European Championship in Georgia . He was also between the posts in the 2-1 final win against Portugal and had previously been clean in three games. A year later he won the U-21 , the Tournament of Toulon , without, however, about the role of the substitute's behind Freddie Woodman from Newcastle United to be out come.
