Diego Rico Salguero (born February 23, 1993 in Burgos ) is a Spanish football player . The full- back currently plays for the second division AFC Bournemouth .

Career

In 2011, Diego Rico moved from his hometown club CD Burgos to the youth of Real Zaragoza . He made his debut for the Zaragoza professional team on September 10, 2013 in the Copa del Rey against Deportivo Alavés . With the Blanquillos , he soon became a regular in the left defense.

On August 17, 2016, Rico switched to the first division club CD Leganés . He made his debut at his new club five days later in a 1-0 away win over Celta Vigo . Rico scored his first goal for Leganés on September 11, 2016 in the 2-1 loss to Sporting Gijón . In August 2017 he extended his contract until 2021.

On July 24, 2018, he moved to the Premier League club AFC Bournemouth , where he signed a four-year contract. The Cherries agreed with Leganés on a transfer fee of twelve million euros. He made his debut for Bournemouth on September 1 against Chelsea . In his first 2018/19 season , Diego Rico only played sporadically in league games and at the end of the season he had 12 appearances in the Premier League. He only made it into the starting line-up in the next 2019/20 season . He completed 27 league games, but had to accept relegation to the EFL Championship with the team .
