Steve Cook (born April 19, 1991 in Hastings ) is an English football player . The defender was one of the players at AFC Bournemouth who surprisingly managed to move up from the third division to the Premier League within three years .

Athletic career

Cook was trained in the south of England at Brighton & Hove Albion . There, however, his sporting breakthrough was denied and he often hired himself out as a loan player at mostly lower-class clubs. When he finally arrived at the third division AFC Bournemouth in October 2011 , the career of the then 20-year-old took off. In early 2012, the "Cherries" signed him permanently and he was a central defender in the team that made it to the second division as third division champions in the 2012/13 season . Two years later, he marched through to the Premier League and his defensive qualities were joined by a goal threat that was expressed in five league goals in the 2014/15 season . He also found his way in the top English league and his four Premier League goals were a not insignificant factor on the way to relegation in the 2015/16 season . In May 2016, Cook signed a new three-year deal in Bournemouth.
