James von Bischoffshausen

Christian James Oliver Terenz von Bischoffshausen (born September 15, 1813 in Witzenhausen , † June 4, 1880 in Rotenburg an der Fulda ) was a Prussian major general and commander of Stralsund .

Life

origin

James was a son of Baron Mordrian von Bischoffshausen (1779-1850) and his first wife Elisabeth, nee Bartlett (1789-1828). His father was a master of Bischoffhausen and Berge , as well as a British brigade inspector. His brother Edwin (1810-1884) was the Hessian senior government councilor.

Military career

On May 30, 1829, Bischoffshausen joined the Guard-Jäger-Battalion of the Electorate of Hesse as a hunter . On October 13, 1832, he was transferred to the 1st Line Infantry Regiment as a Portepeefähnrich , and at the end of December 1833 he was promoted to Second Lieutenant in the vacant infantry regiment "Prince Solms" . Bischoffshausen rose to Prime Lieutenant in early June 1847 and was in command as adjutant of the 1st Infantry Brigade from June 1847 to March 1850 . In this capacity he took part in the battles at Atzbüll , Nübel and Düppel during the campaign against Denmark in 1849 . After a two-month command as adjutant of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, Bischoffshausen was transferred to the Body Guard Regiment on October 24, 1851 , and on December 8, 1851, he was promoted to captain in the general staff in Kassel . On July 6, 1857 he was appointed company commander and at the end of September 1859 he rose as a major to battalion commander. From mid-March 1864, Bischoffshausen was the voting agent at the Federal Military Commission in Frankfurt am Main for one year and was promoted to the General Staff on August 19, 1864 and promoted to lieutenant colonel . On 26 March 1865 he became the adjutant of the electors I. Friedrich Wilhelm appointed and also commissioned the adjutant general with the performance of the business. On April 2, 1866, Bischoffshausen was entrusted with the leadership of the 3rd Infantry Regiment "Prince Friedrich Wilhelm" and took part in the war against Prussia .

According to the military convention with Prussia, Bischoffshausen was accepted into the Prussian Army on October 30, 1866 as a lieutenant colonel with a patent from August 24, 1864 and aggregated to the 1st Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 26 . On December 31, 1866, he was promoted to colonel with a patent from October 30, 1866 .
